Privacy Policy
Flipside · last updated 15 October 2026
Flipside keeps your records on your iPhone and in your own iCloud
account. There is no Flipside account, and we do not run a server that stores
your vehicles, costs, photos or hours. We cannot see your data.
What we collect
Nothing. Flipside has no analytics, no advertising, no
tracking, and no third-party SDKs that report on you. We do not know who you
are, whether you use the app, or what is in it.
Where your data lives
- On your device. Everything you enter — vehicles, costs,
receipt photos, hours, partners — is stored locally.
- In your iCloud. If you are signed in to iCloud, your data
is backed up to your own private iCloud database so it survives a lost
phone. Two plan settings — which car stays free if Pro ends, and when
you first saw that rule — are kept in iCloud's key-value storage, so
your other devices agree on them. All of it is held under your Apple
Account and governed by
Apple's privacy policy.
We have no access to it.
- Shared cars and garages. If you invite someone to a car,
that car and its records are shared through Apple's iCloud sharing with
the person you invite. If you share a garage, the cars you put in that
garage are shared the same way. Nothing else in your inventory is
shared. You can remove access at any time from the car's or garage's
sharing screen.
When the app contacts anyone else
Only when you ask it to, and only with what the task needs:
- Decoding a VIN sends that VIN to the United States
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free public vPIC service
(
vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) to look up the vehicle's specifications.
Nothing else about you is sent.
- Links you tap — a parts carrier's tracking page, a
vehicle history or recall check, a price search on a marketplace — open
that website in an in-app browser, with the tracking number, VIN or the
car's year, make and model in the address, because that is what the page
looks up. Flipside sends nothing else, and what those sites do is covered
by their own privacy policies.
- Subscribing to Flipside Pro is handled entirely by Apple.
Payment is processed by Apple; we never see your payment details, and we
receive no personal information about you as a result of a purchase.
Camera and photo library
Flipside asks for camera access so you can photograph a vehicle, damage, a
part or a receipt, and for photo library access so you can attach pictures you
already have. Those images are stored with the vehicle on your device. They are
not uploaded anywhere except your own iCloud, and — for a car you have chosen to
share — to the person you shared it with. If you save a before-and-after card,
Flipside asks for permission to add that one image to your photo library; it
does not read your library to do so.
On your device only
Some features keep a small amount of data on your iPhone outside the app
itself. None of it leaves the device through Flipside.
- Reminders (for example, an auction starting soon or a
clock left running) are scheduled as local notifications on your
device.
- Widgets and the Lock Screen clock read a short summary,
such as the car on the clock and its hours, from storage shared between
the app and its widgets on your device.
- Trips you log for the mileage deduction stay in your own
book and iCloud, like everything else, and are never shared with
partners.
- Background lifting on listing photos is done by Apple's
on-device image tools; the photos don't leave your device for it.
- Siri, Shortcuts and Search can find your cars by name or
VIN. Apple keeps that index on your device.
Children
Flipside is a tool for running a vehicle business and is not directed at
children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Deleting your data
Settings → Erase all data removes everything from the device,
including your cars, partners and garages. Deleting
the app removes its local data with it. To remove the iCloud copy, delete
Flipside's data from iCloud settings on your Apple device. Because we hold
nothing, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no request to
make of us.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the updated date above will
change and the new version will be published here before it takes effect.
